In a time of unprecedented political divisions and tensions in America, Christians are faced with the challenge of navigating the tumultuous landscape of partisan strife and discord. With the recent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump serving as a stark reminder of the deep-seated animosity that pervades the country's political climate, it is more important than ever for Christians to reflect on how they should respond to such major political divisions.
As Christians, we are called to be ambassadors of peace, reconciliation, and love in a world that is increasingly marked by hatred, hostility, and division. While it may be tempting to disengage from the political sphere and turn a blind eye to the chaos and dysfunction that characterize the current state of affairs, Christians are called to be agents of change and transformation in the world around them. As followers of Jesus, we must resist the temptation to succumb to the divisiveness and bitterness that pervade the political landscape. After all, He loved us while we were yet sinners.
One day, Jesus will return and set all things right. But, this should not lead Christians to disengage from the world or withdraw from the issues and challenges that confront society. On the contrary, the belief in Christ's return should inspire and motivate Christians to actively engage in the world around them, working towards justice, righteousness, and the common good.
The question of whether Christians should cast a vote in an election where no candidate fully reflects Christian beliefs is a complex and nuanced one. While it may be tempting to abstain from voting altogether or to vote for a candidate who aligns more closely with one's own values, Christians must prayerfully consider the potential impact of their vote on the greater good. By participating in the political process, we have the opportunity to influence the direction of our country and advocate for policies and principles that align with our beliefs.
Christians should care about the state of politics and society because of the profound impact that political decisions can have on the lives of individuals. While no candidate may be perfect, Christians have a moral and ethical obligation to support policies and candidates that promote justice, compassion, and human dignity. By actively engaging in the political process and advocating for the values and principles that are near to the heart of God, Christians will be a force for positive change and transformation in society.
In a time of deep political divisions and tensions, Christians are called to be peacemakers, reconcilers, and advocates for justice and righteousness. The belief in the imminent return of Jesus Christ should inspire Christians to actively engage in the world, working towards the establishment of God's kingdom on earth. We are called to take the Gospel into the world (Matt. 28:19). That is the business we should be about.
While the political landscape may be fraught with challenges and complexities, Christians must prayerfully consider their role and responsibility in shaping the future of their country and society. By casting a vote, advocating for justice, and embodying the values of the Kingdom of God, Christians can be a light in the darkness and a beacon of hope in a world that is desperately in need of healing and renewal.
Even in our nation's darkest moments, it is reassuring to remember what Jesus said (Matt. 28:20b) –
“And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Grace and Peace,

Pastor Charley Munro
